George Eliot Hospital – a website and information service fit for a Foundation Trust

Challenge

The George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, a single site NHS Trust with close ties to their community healthcare and voluntary partners, were in the final stages of applying for Foundation Trust status. They wanted to simplify their existing website to make it much easier:
  • georgeeliotfor patients and visitors to find out the information they needed
  • to promote the benefits of the Foundation Trust application and encourage interactive membership
  • to make it easy to donate to the hospital Trust and encourage volunteers
  • for GP’s and other healthcare professionals to access consultant and hospital contacts quickly and directly
  • to expand the website easily as progression demands.

Solution

We developed the Trust website - www.geh.nhs.uk - with full content management facilities to enable them to edit a full events calendar, a membership administration section and database and all other services entries shown on the site. The system has been built to easily extend further in the near future to include Intouch with Health’s Public Health Information Service (PHIS) and Information Prescription system (info2you) launched following our recent involvement with the pilot Department of Health project. This will individually tailor information for patients and carers of all ages and greatly improve the patient experience. It will also be easily accessible via touch screen kiosks to be placed throughout the Trust premises for ease of accessibility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Results

The project has recently been completed and is aiding the Trust in continuing its close links with the community and enabling the public and GP’s to easily find their contact within the Trust. The expansion of the services it will offer will make it one of the frontrunners in meeting the Department of Health’s requirement to start issuing “Information Prescriptions” to the people that it serves.
