Mid Yorkshire Hospitals selects Blue Prism and Intouch for new technology to improve patient care and experience

A large acute hospital Trust in Yorkshire has recently worked with Blue Prism and Intouch to put in place innovative new patient systems which are improving patient care and experience.

The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which has opened brand new hospitals in Pontefract and
Wakefield, looked at new innovative ideas on how to improve the patient arrival process to ensure
patients notify the Hospital of their arrival and are then directed to the correct location for their
consultation. The Trust decided to look at self-service kiosks and review their applicability to the
Trust.

“We looked at a number of ideas on how to improve the experience for the patient and also to look at a cost effective way of arriving patients and improving patient flow. We believe the self-service kiosks are an exciting and very innovative addition to our reception capabilities and as more people
prefer self-service we will have the choice available for the patients themselves to decide” stated James Rawlinson, Assistant Director IT services and Medical Records.

Having selected Intouch with Health as Self-Service Kiosk provider the next challenge was to find a robust, secure and cost effective way to integrate the Kiosks with the Trust’s Patient Administration System (PAS).

“We looked at a variety of options and found a real issue in that the cost, complexity and length of
project to fully integrate the kiosk into our PAS system was going to be prohibitive and technically very difficult. However, Gordon Lorimer, Managing Director of Intouch introduced us to a partner of theirs, Blue Prism, who had already successfully, and cost effectively integrated Kiosk solutions at University Hospitals of Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. When we spoke to Blue Prism we found that the technology could not only integrate our PAS with the kiosks, it could literally integrate details in a fraction of the time, and a fraction of the cost of traditional approaches” commented James. “We also felt confident with the reference customers that Blue Prism had that the
challenging issues or security, audit and governance within the NHS had been

proven and that the technical difficulties of integration with multiple technologies was also proven.”
Mid Yorkshire have now embarked on a number of integration projects using Blue Prism and is rolling out Self-Service Kiosks in the new hospitals.

Alastair Bathgate, CEO of Blue Prism commented “We are absolutely delighted that Mid YorkshireTrust has selected Blue Prism and we look forward to working with them in the future and to them joining the rapidly growing Blue Prism NHS user group”
