Lifestyle Health Checker for preventing ill health
Intouch with Health’s Lifestyle Health Checker is a versatile system designed to support the public health agenda. It’s purpose is to help citizens identify in what particular areas they have scope to improve their lifestyle. It then gives them relevant advice and “signposting” to sources of national and local support. This would typically include health trainers, smoking cessation teams, dieticians, and other resources.
At the same time, the Health Checker identifies to health professionals which citizens have the greatest health risks so that, if willing, they can be directly targeted for health improvement support. The system also helps identify the most prevalent health problems and where they are occurring.

Citizens can access the Health Checker online, on paper, by phone, on touch screens, and via portable computer technology. Content can be offered in a range of selectable languages.
Health trainers and other professionals can also use the tool when working face to face with clients.
The system is flexible because it can easily be customised for any target age or socio/economic group, given an appropriate title and branding, and loaded with any desired range of lifestyle questions and corresponding advice sheets with localised signposting.
The example screen shown comes from the version of Health Checker being created for NHS24 and the Scottish Government Health Department. One of the SNP’s manifesto commitments was to establish a free lifestyle health check for all Scottish Citizens reaching 40. The subject matter covers eating, drinking, physical activity, sexual health, mental health, external factors such as housing and unemployment, and more.
